Cary Elwes


Ivan Simon Cary Elwes , is an English actor, screenwriter and bestselling author known for his roles in The Princess Bride Glory Robin Hood Men in Tights Days of Thunder Bram Stokers Dracula Hot Shots Twister Liar, Liar and as Dr. Lawrence Gordon in Saw. He has also had recurring roles in television series such as The XFiles and Psych. He currently stars in the Crackle series, The Art of More.

Elwes was born Ivan Simon Cary Elwes in Westminster, London. He is the youngest of three boys born to portraitpainter Dominic Elwes and interior designer and socialite Tessa Kennedy. His brothers are Damian Elwes, an artist, and Cassian Elwes, an independent film producer. His stepfather, Elliott Kastner, was an American film producer. His paternal grandfather was painter Simon Elwes, whose father was the diplomat and tenor Gervase Elwes . His other greatgrandfathers include the diplomat Rennell Rodd, 1st Baron Rennell, Sir John Macfarlane Kennedy, and Croatian industrialist Ivan Rikard Ivanovi. Elwes ancestry is English, Irish, Scottish, Croatian Jewish , and Serbian, the latter two through his maternal grandmother, Daka McLean, born Daka Marija IvanoviBanac, whose second husband, Lieut.Col. Billy McLean, was an operative for Special Operations Executive during World War II.
